GARY OWERS hailed his players' performance levels as Forest Green ended the festive period on an unbeaten high.

Rovers' boss was delighted with the 4-2 victory over Aldershot Town on New Year's Eve and the 1-1 draw with Hereford United on Bank Holiday Monday, which pushed Rovers' Conference unbeaten run to four games.

Owers said: "The team have worked hard and deserve the recent run of excellent form."

Meanwhile, on-loan Bristol City striker Guy Madjo underlined his undoubted talent with four goals over the festive period. The Cameroon forward missed a late penalty against Aldershot that would have given him his hat-trick.

Owers added: "I was probably the only person in the ground who didn't want Guy to take it.

"I wanted us to have a goal difference of plus-four. Instead Guy has missed it and we've ended up with a difference of plus-two, which is a sour note."

However, Owers was delighted that the two nerve-jangling delays for floodlight failure failed to knock his side out of their stride.

He said: "I hope nothing is taken away from the performance of my players because I don't think the lights affected the timing of the goals.

"After the second delay we prayed. We knew if the power went again that the game would be abandoned. Every time I blinked towards the end I thought the lights had gone again.

"We could have put the game out of sight by half-time given the chances we had and missed. We totally dominated, particularly in the first half."

Meanwhile, with the January transfer window open, Owers is hoping to keep hold of Madjo and Ben Harding who are both due to return to Bristol City and MK Dons respectively.

He said: "We would like to keep hold of both of them. Ben could stay for another month. If Guy goes I hope he moves to a league club instead of a team in the Conference."
