STROUD'S Geoff Twinning strengthened his claim for a return to the Great Britain side as he retained the Sealions Modern Pentathlon in Kent.
The show jumping was the first event and, unfortunately he drew one of the more "suspect" horses. However, an excellent clear round was achieved. This was followed with three hours of fencing. Again, Geoff displayed his dominance in this discipline and finished as the overall leader at the end of day one.
Day two commenced with the shoot and, although a poor start, a confident finish left Geoff winning the event. Next to come was the 1500m cross country run. Although feeling unwell from a stomach upset in the early stages of the race, Geoff pulled out a good run finishing fourth behind some very strong runners.
The last event was the swim. Geoff's background in this event brought about an awesome display with the other athletes only able to watch as he powered down the pool to finish first.
This success will no doubt drive his desire to improve on this year's National Ranking result of fourth place. The first of three National Qualifiers will be held in December this year and it is Geoff's intention to reinstate his position in the Great Britain Team.
