police are hunting for two men who tried to abduct a teenage girl as she walked to school in Nailsworth.
The middle-aged pair were travelling in a large car with blacked out windows and pulled up alongside the 16-year-old at 8.40am on Thursday in Old Bristol Road at the Arnolds Lane junction.
They got out of the vehicle - which police say was the size of a BMW 740 - and offered her a lift.
When she refused one man tried to grab the terrified student.
The girl managed to get away and escaped unhurt.
Police are carrying out extensive enquiries into the shocking incident, and children are warned to be vigilant.
Schools in the area have been informed, and teachers have issued warnings to pupils.
Headteacher Chris Steer of Thomas Keble School, Eastcombe said: "All pupils are regularly warned about such dangers and we always liase closely with the police and other agencies."
Tony Trippet, head of Maidenhill School, in Kings Road, Stonehouse, said: "It's clearly a big concern for parents, so it's a big concern for us. "Personal safety is part of our whole PSE programme. We do tell children not to take lifts from strangers."
Both men were white, aged between 40 and 50 and were wearing dark coloured baseball caps and dark zip-up tops, which covered part of their faces.
One was of muscular build and wore gloves, the other was of medium build and his top had three white stripes down both arms.
Because it happened during the rush hour, police are hoping witnesses will come forward.
Anyone who saw the vehicle or the incident should call Gloucestershire police on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident 95 of 6 October or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
