CONCERNED Paganhill residents living near a roundabout say their safety is being put at risk by inconsiderate drivers who continually park on the pavement.

Motorists have been making the most of the wide pavement at the Stratford Road roundabout in Paganhill by using it as an illegal parking spot.

Fears about safety were sparked following a recent incident involving grandmother, Joyce Horwood, who walks with a Zimmer frame.

The 79-year-old, who lives in nearby Paganhill Lane, needed hospital treatment after she fell over while trying to make her way through the parked cars.

She said: "When there are a lot of cars parked there, you have to move onto the road to get passed and it's a busy main road. "I'm afraid to walk there on my own now in case I can't get through and fall over again."

Amrit Fatania, (corr), 52, who lives on the corner of the lane, says action is needed to stop drivers blocking the pavement.

"The pavement is for pedestrians and not for cars to park," he said. "If it's just on the odd occasion people won't mind, but it's all the time."

"We've contacted the police and the council about this but nothing has been done."

Mr Fatania says he other residents are also worried, and want bollards installed.

Gloucestershire police spokesman Matt Ford said the community support officer who covers Paganhill is aware of the problem, and has been moving drivers on.

"As of now he's going to start visiting that area at peak times and if it is a continuous problem he will be looking at issuing tickets to the offending drivers," he said.
