South West 2 West Stroud RFC 28 Cleve RFC 12
THE scoreline flattered Cleve who secured all their points in the dying minutes of a match.
Despite all the territory and possession in the first period though, Stroud could do little more than split the posts with a brace of penalties from Adam Seager.
With a slender lead Stroud had it all to do in turning their superiority into points, and it began firstly from a set piece when a successful scrum led to a sweeping attack. Seager joined the line and with clean handling he was set clear to the corner. A penalty was added.
Stroud replacement John Wand also showed pace and guile, he gave respectability to the scoreline with a fine try out wide, Seager added the extra's.
Shroud's next try followed a hack on, Matt Hart harried the defence who made a mess of trying to clear. With the ball bobbling around behind the tryline Perrins pounced, scoring the easiest try of his distinguished career.
With eighty minutes almost up Stroud took their foot off the pedal and whilst going into a lengthy period of injury time conceded two sloppy tries in quick succession both scored by John Down, Gapper converting the first.
Stroud look forward to the visit of Glos Old Boys in the cup this Saturday (3pm) at Fromehall Park.
