NONSUCH Books and Music in Market Street, Nailsworth is closing down on Wednesday, September 30 due to the recession.

The shop, which employs five people, has been closed by its parent company Booksellers Limited, which is based in Herefordshire, to cut back the company's costs.

All five staff are being made redundant and are now looking for jobs in the area.

Manager Margaret Jones told the SNJ that the shop had many regular customers.

"I feel sad for them because they are so loyal," she said.

"It is a real shame but our head office is based in Herefordshire and we are in Gloucestershire, so I think we were just the first to go.

"The shop had such a lovely atmosphere and we will all really miss it."

Nonsuch had been trading in Market Street for two years but the premises had been a bookshop for two years before that.

It is not thought that a new trader has been found for the premises.

Nonsuch is now having a closing down sale where at present there is 30 per cent off everything apart from music.

Customers who have Nonsuch tokens will need to redeem them before the shop closes.
