FAIRGROUND rides, jugglers, musicians, choirs, stalls and late-night shopping heralded the festive season for Minchinhampton’s residents and traders on Friday night.

As well as Father Christmas and fair rides for children there were lots of stalls at the Market House, the Barn at the Crown Inn and in the main street.

Tony Evans, the Town Crier, announced the proceedings as the festivities began with a children’s procession led by Clara the donkey and a nativity group.

Rod Harris, headteacher of Minchinhampton Primary School, turned on the lights while many residents living around the square made a big effort with pretty Christmas trees and decorations.

There was also a stable and nativity scene with children able to look at the crib and see the donkey.

Music was provided by Avening Silver Band and Alex West from Minchinhampton Folk Club, and entertainers from Gifford's Circus performed in the street.

The evening ended with traditional community carol singing with hundreds of people getting into the spirit.
