STROUD Vintage has built up quite a following of retro fashion fans since it first began staging fairs at the Sub Rooms a year ago, and now, with the business featured in this month’s Vogue magazine, the organisers have taken the next step and set up shop in the High Street.
Featuring a nostalgic collection of original dresses, jewellery and accessories from as back as the Georgian era, Stroud Vintage On High is an Aladdin’s cave of hand-picked garments for men, women and children. The shop is ran by husband and wife team David and Sandra Ireland, who hosted an open evening on Tuesday, November 25, for shoppers to browse their unique stock, all of which is supplied by specialist vintage dealers.
These include original Asian Kimono dresses from Swindon based dealer Sally Eade, and a number of items from Gloucester label Deja Vu, including an elegant brown two-piece skirt suit which was worn at Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, and a mint-condition black crepe dress from the 1940s.
Jewellery from David and Sandra’s own label Forget Me Not is also available to buy, including a genuine Victorian wax tiara, and an Edwardian silver-plated dress belt with 12 inset opals.
Other gems to be found among the rings, lockets, hats, gloves and shoes is a classical floral dress from the 1950s, again in perfect condition, and one or two beautifully decorated Indian evening bags from the 1930s.
They also stock a small collection of mens accessories, including hats, ties and bow ties, and Sandra hopes to get some mens evening wear soon.
Stroud Vintage On High is at 29 High Street, Stroud.
