CHILDREN’S faces lit up as they recreated the true meaning of Christmas at the historic St Cyr’s Church in Stonehouse.
Year three pupils from Park Junior School were shown the Christian message in a series of interactive displays ending with the birth of baby Jesus.
These included a retelling of how the angels visited the shepherds to tell of Christ’s birth, and a re-enactment of Joseph and Mary’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem.
There was also an area dedicated to the wise men’s gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, and how these were symbolic of God’s promises to his people.
Walking the children through each display was the Rev Charles Minchin, who organised the event with the help of the church ministry team.
“Today is an opportunity to think more about the story behind Christmas, because it is so easy for it to be forgotten,” he said.
“Christmas is the start of the story of Jesus, which is the most important story there is to tell.”
Teacher Ms Wyatt, who is also the school’s RE co-ordinator, said: “Not only does this give the children a chance to reflect on the Christmas story in a fun and interactive way, but it also allows them to gain a Christian perspective on the festivities.”
