FOREST Green community hall is now up and running after Nailsworth Town Council and Forest Green Residents' Association took over the Redrow Marketing Suite at the top of Spring Hill.
This building is at present a temporary community hall. The town council has planning permission to build a bigger two storey hall in its place.
After three years of public consultation a model for the new community hall has been chosen. It will include a large downstairs room and kitchen, will have a lift to the second floor and meeting and storage rooms upstairs.
Mayor Norman Kay said the new centre will be built to an attractive design and include cutting edge technology to keep it sustainable.
He said it will be built as soon as possible, but there are no set dates at the moment.
At the November meeting of the town council £500,000 was mentioned as a rough estimate for how much the new building will cost.
The temporary centre has a large meeting room that can hold up to 30 people, a kitchen, an office and a small kitchen. The building is accessible for people with disabilities.
The hall is ready for bookings and can be booked seven days a week, including bank holidays. Charges for individuals and community groups are £12 a session and £22 for a whole day. There will be an open day at the hall on Friday, December 12. If you would like to find out more or make a booking contact the Nailsworth Town Clerk on 01453 833592 (Monday to Thursday).
