A 23-YEAR-OLD barmaid was shot in a suspected attempted robbery of The Old Crown in Paganhill on Saturday night. Fifteen police officers attended the incident which happened on Saturday night just after the pub at Park End had closed. A man is alleged to have entered the bar and threatened barmaid Nicola Wager with a pellet gun. Police say there was a struggle and the gun was discharged into her abdomen. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Chief superintendent Gavin Thomas, of Stroud and Cotswolds police, said: “Around 15 police officers attended the scene very promptly and detained the suspect within minutes. “While not recommended, the barmaid’s actions in tackling the suspect were remarkably courageous. “This type of incident is very rare in Stroud but we do understand the impact it can have on the community."
