At approximately 11.55am this morning Police were called to a house in Bearsfield, Bisley after landscape gardeners discovered what is believed to be a World War One crater shell in the grounds of a resident’s house.
After carrying out a risk assessment, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was called in and houses within a 50-metre radius were evacuated.
The shell was described as approximately six inches in length and three to four inches in diameter, with a pointed front end.
The EOD unit are currently transporting the device back to its base in Ashchurch, where it will be disposed of.
On examination, this was discovered to be an inert WW1 tracer shell that would have been used for training purposes.
