ECO-ENTHUSIAST Simon Arundel has found a way to travel to work that cuts both his costs and carbon emissions.
Simon, 43, of Stroud, commutes on a scooter charged with renewable electricity, which costs only 20 pence a day.
He is also exempt from paying road tax due to the vehicle’s green credentials.
"When I’m riding along I like to think I’m sailing to work – It certainly feels like it," he said.
"Overnight I park the bike up at home and plug it in to recharge the batteries.
"It costs me only 20 pence per charge, so my daily commute costs me the price of an apple.
"Best of all, it has zero carbon emissions."
Simon, an insurance manager, used to car-share to work in Gloucester with his partner Elaine.
But when she took a job elsewhere he was faced with a two-hour daily trip on public transport.
Then he decided to buy the scooter and charge it with supplier Green Energy UK’s renewable electricity, which is generated by wind, solar, hydro power and biomass.
Simon now gets to work in just 25 minutes and hopes the idea will catch on with other commuters.
