THE first phase of the restoration of the historic building which used to house the Nailsworth Boys’ Club is complete.
The building dates back to 1852 when the Nailsworth public made subscriptions to pay for its construction, to provide reading rooms and a library for the town. Since then it has housed a library and cinema and provided accommodation for the Boys’ Club.
When it ceased operating in 2000, the building was left unused until it was taken on by the Nailsworth Youth Community Enterprise (NYCE).
NYCE plan to set up a programme of activities and uses for the building which will benefit the youth and community of Nailsworth. One aim is to provide apprenticeship-type training programmes for unemployed youths in the district.
NYCE are also seeking practical help with the refurbishment of the building.
