NORTON Wood children’s play area received a cash boost after a generous Nailsworth businessman donated money to the community for the second year running.

Mohibur Rahman, the owner of A Passage to India in Nailsworth held an award ceremony on Sunday, October 26.

Sally Millet and Margaret Marshall from the Forest Green Residents’ Association picked up the £1,000 donation. MP David Drew and Nailsworth Mayor Norman Kay were also present.

Mrs Millet thanked Mr Rahman and said she was 'deeply honoured' to have the association's work acknowledged in this way.

She said: "It was an uphill fight in this day and age to find financial support for things like play areas.

"When a local business actually takes the trouble to offer this to local communities it means a great deal.

Mr Drew said: "It is a really helpful sum of money with which they can do some serious work.

Mr Kay added: "This reflects the energy and enthusiasm that the association has shown, and continues to show."

Mrs Millett said the association planned to use the Passage to India Award to provide a double-bar cradle swing for three to five-year-olds at the Norton Wood play area.

The Passage to India Award 2007 went to Nailsworth Silver Band Junior Brass now called the Training Band.
