AN UPDATE has been released over the future of a garden centre near Stonehouse amid closure fears.

Dobbies Garden Centre (Gloucester) - located in Bath Road, Haresfield - is currently one of 17 stores across the UK affected as part of a “restructuring plan” by the brand.

It comes as six Little Dobbies stores - including its Cheltenham shop - have already closed.

Meanwhile, 11 main garden centres - including the Gloucester store - have been earmarked for closure.

It has been reported by national media that the Bath Road store will close next Sunday, December 15.

However, a Dobbies spokesperson has told this newspaper the future of the store will be decided next Monday, December 9.

It is understood, if the centre shut, this would impact eight full time and 35 part time roles.

The spokesperson said: “The Gloucester store remains impacted and will cease trading by the end of the year if the restructuring plan is approved.

“There is a sanction hearing on Monday, December 9 where the court will judge if the restructuring plan is to be approved.

“It’s been reported in the media that the Gloucester store will close on Sunday December 15, but this hasn’t been confirmed by Dobbies.

“Subject to the restructuring plan being approved, we will make an announcement then.”

The Haresfield centre - which is located near junction 14 of the M5 - has a Waitrose food hall and The Works.

Dating back to 1975, the centre - previously known Blooms of Gloucester - was originally owned by the Jardinerie chain.

It was then taken over by Blooms which in turn was taken over by Wyevale's.

The building itself was completely rebuilt in 2005.
