FUNDRAISING legend Kevin Sinfield CBE breaks new ground as he comes to Gloucestershire for his latest epic challenge – ‘Running Home for Christmas’ - on Monday.
Rugby League and fundraising legend Kevin Sinfield CBE will break new ground when he runs from Gloucester to Bristol on Monday, December 2 - the second day of his latest epic fundraising challenge ‘Running Home for Christmas’.
This will be the first time that Sinfield has visited the South West in his annual challenges.
On Monday Kevin will set off from the Kingsholm Stadium at 7am.
Morning checkpoints include garden centre Highfield Garden World in Whitminster where supporters are encouraged to gather to cheer Kevin on as he enters the popular garden centre at approximately 8.30am.
Kevin and his team are due to have a short break at the popular garden centre before heading off on the next 7km stint at 9am.
Sinfield will run in memory of his friend Rob Burrow, who passed away from motor neurone disease (MND) in June this year.
This will be Sinfield’s fifth annual challenge for the MND community having already raised nearly £10 million.
But he will also be inspired by three men linked to this area including former Gloucester Rugby forward Ed Slater who was diagnosed with MND in 2022 and will be setting Sinfield off from Kingsholm at 7am.
Sinfield will then face a gruelling challenge of running nearly 40 miles to Bristol.
As he enters Bristol, Sinfield will stop at the Memorial Ground to meet with former Gloucestershire cricketer and current President, David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, who was diagnosed with MND this year, and Bristol Rovers striker Marcus Stewart, who has been battling MND since 2022.
This year’s challenge has the tagline of ‘Running home for Christmas’ as the seventh day will end in Sinfield’s home area of Saddleworth.
Sinfield will be raising money for six MND charities with the MND Association being the major beneficiary to enable their work across all regions of the country.
