THIS stunning natural swimming pool could be created in countryside near Stroud.
Called Stroud Waters, it would be surrounded by the Cotswold Way and an enclave of trees in an area of natural beauty at Court Farm near King’s Stanley.
A crowdfunding campaign was launched this week to help fund a feasibility study.
The accessible pool would be available to use all year round with safe, clean water which would be filtered by aquatic plants and biofiltration systems.
One section would be heated all year by geothermal energy while the other would be left to change temperature with the seasons.
There would also be a sauna, changing rooms and showers, a wellbeing space for hire, play areas and seating.
Community Waters CIC, which is behind the project, is hoping to receive up to £10,000 from Stroud District Council’s new crowdfunding platform towards a £38,444 feasibility study but needs to show community backing via crowdfunding pledges.
The feasibility study would provide information for a planning application.
More than 100 supporters have already pledged more than £2,000 but more backers and pledges are required.
SDC’s Stroud Funding scheme allows community projects to apply for a share of a £100,000 grant pot of up to £10,000.
Amy Morris of the CIC said: “Our community loves swimming outdoors all year round to support their health and well-being but we are limited in safe waters locally to do this.
"Natural swimming pools are environmentally sustainable alternatives to traditional chlorinated pools.
"They use aquatic plants and natural filtration systems creating a harmonious balance with the environment.
"Such spaces have proven immensely popular across Europe and are gaining traction in the UK.
"The feasibility study is a critical first step in making the vision a reality.
"It will assess key factors such as site suitability, environmental impact, design options, and long-term viability.
"Conducting this study ensures that every element of the project is meticulously planned, maximizing the chances of success and delivering the best possible outcome for the community.
"What makes this campaign especially exciting is the partnership SDC have with the Spacehive crowdfunding platform. SDC's review of the campaign is just weeks away, so time is of the essence."
