PREPARATIONS are moving apace for this year’s Stroud Goodwill Festival.
This year the festival - which starts at 6pm on Friday, December 6 - extends into Saturday daytime.
The Stroud & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce have picked up the co-ordination of Stroud Goodwill this year, following the retirement of the previous committee that have successfully run the event for many years.
With their stewardship, they are extending the event into Saturday with more activities across the town.
Tony Davey, vice chair of the chamber, said: “Stroud Goodwill Evening is not one thing, it’s the bringing together of events across the town, and that hasn’t changed.
“There will still be three markets, a lantern parade and funfair.
“Friday evening Santa will be in his grotto in the Stroud Town Council offices as usual.
“What has changed is that we are bringing Goodwill to Saturday daytime too.
“This gives those who have younger children for whom Goodwill Evening is too late, an opportunity to still take part and enjoy festivities. Further, adults and children who find the crowds and noise on a Friday a little overwhelming can enjoy festivities that may suit them better on Saturday.”
Across the two days there will be street entertainment, late night opening on Friday, choirs, bands, even an Alpaca Experience.
“There will be a trail around the town and we hope the public will help our jury to choose the best dressed window or display in the town. We look forward to seeing the team from Stroud Fire Station in King Street, there is an eBike Display scheduled on both days, plus the Rinky Dink will be making its traditional appearance on Friday too. You can even take a cruise with Santa on the canal during the day on Saturday.”
