PLANS ARE in the offing for a new convenience store in Stroud town centre.
An alcohol licence application has been lodged to Stroud District Council as part of proposals to convert a section of the former M&Co building into a convenience store.
Pub group Amber Taverns is planning to open a bar in a section of the old M&Co building in King Street which closed in April last year.
A change of use application was recently approved by Stroud District Council.
Plans - which were submitted in May - include creating a bar area on the ground floor with extra toilets and a storage area on the first floor.
The SNJ understands that in addition to the pub, a convivence store would be located in the right hand part of the former M&Co unit.
The alcohol licence submitted by the applicant read: "We plan to operate 2A King Street as a convenience retail store.
"The premises will sell a wide range of convenience goods and home produce and seeks authorisation to include alcohol sales, for consumption off the premises during the normal opening times of the business, including by delivery."
If approved, alcohol could be sold between 6am and 11pm everyday.
It could also open during the same hours.
Representations can be made in writing to the Licensing Section until Friday, December 6.
