A GLOBAL British icon has donated £50k to help secure the future of a much-loved and needed Stroud group.
A generous pledge from actor and James Bond star Daniel Craig, as well as local community support, will help Brimscombe Mill, home to The Long Table Stroud, continue as a vital resource for its local community.
Brimscombe Mill, Stroud's beloved community hub, has received overwhelming support from the local community, as well as many notable supporters, including actor Daniel Craig, who pledged £50’000.
This was in addition to other notable generous donations and the group say this will ensure the Mill remains a cornerstone for impactful programs like The Long Table, The Bike Drop, Kids Stuff, and The Home Remedy.
This pledge came after the unexpected news of a potential eviction from the site due to a surprise sale.
This spurred a powerful grassroots response from the community, as well as international press, to preserve the essential space - which was secured earlier in October 2024.
Over the past three years, Brimscombe Mill has driven significant positive change within the Stroud community.
Tom Herbert, director at Brimscombe Mill and co-founder of The Long Table, said: “This incredible support from both the community and Daniel Craig speaks to the vitality of what we’re building here at Brimscombe Mill.
“This space has become a lifeline for many, offering not only meals and activities but also a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
"The continued support enables us to grow our offer and deepen our impact.”
In addition to food and employment initiatives, the Mill hosted 389 free or Pay-As-You-Can activities last year, drawing people of all ages together and strengthening the bonds within the community.
Brimscombe Mill plans to expand its programs and further its reach, continuing to serve as a central hub for local resilience and community initiatives.
