A Gloucestershire town car park will remain open while work is undertaken to install a new sewer.
Stonehouse Town Council is installing a new sewer line within the Oldends Lane car park.
They say this will provide benefits to the town council and wider community and are working with Rowntree design partnership and Cambrian Civil Engineering on the project.
A small dedicated sewer pumping station will be installed providing a secure outlet to the Severn Trent Water main line sewer.
This is as part of the town council’s wider environmental commitment the project will remove the need for an aged septic tank system.
They say that this will eradicate ongoing septic tank management and maintenance costs and will be a more environmentally favourable way of waste management.
The works which have already commenced are expected to take around four weeks and will also allow for the connection of the Stonehouse Town Football Club hospitality suite into the main sewer line.
Town mayor Neil Gibbs said: “The environment is hugely important to us, and the replacement of the septic tank will represent an important move to protect the environment, whilst also helping the local football club to become even more environmentally responsible.
“This work will see us installing new sewer pipes, so they are in the best possible condition, meaning less problems for everyone and better protection for the environment.”
