A CHARITY in Cam has launched play sessions for young children to help with their development.
GL11’s Community Hub’s learning through play sessions, like messy Monday, are designed for children aged from newborn to four.
Officials say these sessions give children the chance to explore the world through their senses and also helps them develop key skills like coordination and problem-solving.
“We know that for young children, play helps them explore the world, build relationships, and develop important skills,” said Kath Redmond, GL11’s families team manager.
“That’s why we have a range of activities using the power of play to shape young minds.”
GL11 also runs stay and play sessions at Sharpness Village Hall, where parents can meet, relax, and connect while their little ones enjoy playful activities.
Every four weeks, a health visitor is on hand to offer advice and baby weigh-ins, making it a one-stop support spot for families.
Meanwhile, family Fridays at GL11 in Cam sees families come together to share a nutritious meal, making new friends, and teaching children healthy eating habits.
After-school and school holiday adventure play sessions are all about fun and freedom for children aged 6-11.
Focusing on the great outdoors, these sessions let children connect with nature while enjoying child-led play. A perfect break from the pressures of school.
A messy Monday parent said: “There is so much for my son to do on a messy Monday, we love the big garden and playing with the mud kitchen.”
A family Friday parent said: “I love coming to family Friday, my child gets to play, socialise, and eat a delicious home cooked meal. I have started to make friends too.”
The community hub also offers PEEP & HENRY programs.
PEEP is all about helping babies and young children become confident communicators and learners through everyday activities like talking, singing, and storytelling.
Meanwhile, for parents and carers of children aged 0-5, HENRY (Healthy Families: Right from the Start) is a free parenting program focusing on building healthy habits around exercise, nutrition, and family life, and includes a creche.
