REMEMBRANCE is set to be marked across Stroud District with a number of services and parades.

In Stroud the big Remembrance day event takes place on Sunday, November 10 at Park Gardens at 10.45am with a Remembrance service and wreath laying at the war memorial in Park Gardens.

There is also a church service at St Laurence church at 9.30am followed by refreshments at the church hall.

Saturday October 26 in Stonehouse saw the Poppy Day launch event.

Mayor Neil Gibbs is pictured in front of the giant 8ft x 8ft poppy made up of thousands of smaller crocheted and knitted woollen poppies which took a team of ‘knitters’ nearly a year to create.

Entertainment was supplied by the Stroud Salsa Band seen lined up behind the giant poppy.

The Poppy collectors hope to raise more than the £14,500 they did for the appeal last year from the very generous people of Stonehouse.

The Appeal lasts until the November 11 and on Sunday November 10 the largest Memorial Ceremony on Memorial Green in Stonehouse with many contingents of cadets, local support services, local authorities and military marching band will take place.

Minchinhampton Baptist Church has a service on Sunday, 10 November 10 with a short service at Tetbury Street at 10.00 am and then join others from the local community at the War Memorial for an Act of Remembrance at 11.00 am.

In Nailsworth on Sunday, November 10, a parade will assemble at the bus station in May Lane at 2:30 PM. The parade will march through May Lane, Castle Street, and Silver Street, and stop outside St James' Church. The service will begin at 3pm in the church. Wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial Gates from 3:30–3:45pm, and the parade will reform and dismiss in Long Street between 3:45–4pmM.

On Monday, November 11, wreaths will be laid at the World War 2 memorial at 11am.

In Dursley there is a Remembrance Sunday Parade on Sunday November 10.

Schedule of Events (approximate timings)

14.30pm Assemble at the bus station in May Lane, Dursley

14.45pm Parade leave the bus station and marches via May Lane, Castle Street and Silver Street. Parade stops in Silver Street outside St James' Church, about turns and marches into Long Street.

15.00 Service starts in St James' Church.

Between 15.30 – 15.45 Wreath laying party assembles in front of War Memorial Gates for Acts of Remembrance.

Between 15.45 – 16.00 Parade reforms in Long Street and dismisses.

Remembrance Day Monday November 11:

Wreaths will be laid at the World War 2 memorial at 11am on Monday November 11.

The World War 2 memorial is located at the Pavillion on the War Memorial Recreation Ground, Dursley.

Stonehouse is also marking Remembrance on Sunday November 10 and then on Monday November 11: Armistice Day - This year will incorporate a cross-laying ceremony for those listed on the memorial.
