A KEY road in the Stroud area has been shut due to an ‘unforeseen void’.
The closure at Rodborough Hill has been extended due to the hole, highway officials from Gloucestershire County Council say.
It is understood the road will be closed for the next 24 hours for the ‘safety of the public’.
It comes as resurfacing work has been taking place on the carriageway between 9.30am to 3.30pm since beginning earlier this month.
A highways spokesperson said in a statement on social media: “Due to an unforeseen void appearing within the carriageway, it is necessary for a 24-hour road closure.
“This is for the safety of the public and will remain in place until further notice.
“Our teams will be working to resolve it as soon as safely possible.”
Elsewhere, there are still delays along London Road due to the ongoing 'sinkhole' works and four-way traffic lights.
