PLANS have been lodged to demolish two key Stonehouse buildings which have been left vacant for several years.
Proposals were lodged by Gloucestershire County Council to demolish the old Elms care home building and the former library, both located in Elm Road in Stonehouse.
The care home was closed in 2022 while the library was relocated to the town council offices in 2020.
The plans – according to a document published on behalf of GCC - read: “These buildings are derelict, and without purpose, having been closed due to new provisions elsewhere.
“The former 'The Elms' Care Home operated by the Order of St John was closed in Autumn 2022 following community engagement.
“The former ‘Stonehouse Library’ was closed in 2020 following the relocation of the Library service to the High Street, Stonehouse.
“As part of these closures the County Council committed to investigating the feasibility of delivering a new care home on the existing site.
“The council wishes to demolish the building and further establish a case to bring forward a new build care home with modern facilities."
