A HOTEL near Stroud is celebrating after receiving an award for culinary excellence.

The Falcon in Painswick has received one AA Rosette following its first inspection.

An AA inspector described the hotel as ‘packed full of character’, with ‘hospitality from the small team [that] really made this stay’.

The hotel’s autumn-inspired menu, which features local ingredients, was noted as making ‘good use of the season’s quality produce’.

AA’s Rosette scheme celebrates successful cooking at different levels in the UK.

Restaurants and hotels can be awarded between one and five Rosettes.

Locations with one Rosette are said to achieve standards that stand out in their area.

Situated in New Street in Painswick, The Falcon has been serving the community for over 200 years.

It has 11 bedrooms, while its dining experience involves both local and seasonal produce.

The Falcon is now managed by wine-producer Balfour Winery, and its team is led by general manager Daniel Orme and head chef Jake Hadden.

Lee Hart, Balfour’s operations director, said: “This is a huge achievement for our young team at The Falcon.

“Jake and Dan have shown incredible dedication, and we’re thrilled to see their hard work recognised.

“This AA Rosette is a reflection of the passion that drives our team and is just the beginning of what we hope will be many more accomplishments.”

“We’re thrilled with the Rosette,” said Jake.

“It’s been an exciting journey, and we’re passionate about creating dishes that reflect the incredible ingredients of the Cotswolds.

“We’ll continue to innovate and push boundaries.”

Daniel said: “The whole team is overjoyed with this recognition.

“It’s a fantastic moment for The Falcon and for Painswick.

“We’re committed to making The Falcon a top destination for both locals and visitors.”
