YOU may recall that a couple of weeks back I mentioned that Lewis Quiggley, one of our new young farmers who joined the market about 12 months ago, had been nominated for Small Holder of the Year at the Cotswold Life Food and Drink awards. We are delighted to announce that Lewis won the category, and well deserved too. Farming is a hard (but rewarding) job, with the struggle to make ends meet just as challenging as ever. We are delighted that the farmers’ market can offer a lifeline to new local farmers like Lewis, and that your support of his range of pork products has given him the stability to make a go of it.
Quiggies Piggies will be at the market this Saturday, so if you haven’t met them yet, why not check them out? They are in the central square of stalls in the market square, behind Horton’s Honey.
In other news, our Apple Day was a hugely lovely day. Days Cottage, who run the event at the market, would normally be running a similar event on their farm in Brookthorpe this coming weekend, but unfortunately the persistent rain has made their land unsuitable for vehicles and they have had to cancel it.
Things to look out for this Saturday - Sibling Distillery will be back after 3 months out, Stroud Jeweller Pascale Stanley is in, Julian Harvard has chrysanths just starting and will have lots of them for a few weeks and Niang’s Thai Snacks return after a week’s holiday.
