TRAFFIC which has been causing mayhem in Stroud is set to continue.

Four way-traffic lights are in operation at Bowbridge junction with the last few days seeing rush-hour congestion along London Road.

On Friday, the road was at a standstill for motorists heading out of town from Waitrose roundabout.

Today it's been reported that traffic has been very slow from Chalford to Stroud in the morning and afternoons.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said: “Due to an issue discovered beneath the ground on the junction of the A419 and Gunhouse Lane in Stroud, and the potential for a sinkhole to form on this busy road, we have had to install temporary four-way traffic signals.

“These temporary signals will be in place while we investigate the issue and arrange for repairs to be carried out.

"The temporary four-way lights will be operated manually during peak times to help ease congestion.

“Unfortunately, we can't confirm the length of the works until the investigation is complete but we will be aiming to get the road reopened fully as soon as practicable.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
