A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER who is a 'familiar sight' in Stroud High Street is celebrating her 100th birthday this week.

Marjorie Moore, who is 100 on Wednesday, September 25, is a familiar sight on Stroud High Street and Friday market.

Every week she is surrounded by her family at Woodfuffs Café.

She is always watching people walk past and giving friends a smile and a wave.

Marjorie is often heard singing a verse or two of an old-time tune, remembering every word of every line.

It’s hard enough to reach a century in cricket but to reach it in birthdays is something truly special.

As Marjorie has been telling everyone all year, she will be a hundred not out.

The Old Town Hall in the centre of Stroud was decked out for the three time great grandmother, a banner saying ‘Happy 100th Birthday Nana The Great’ and 100 photos from baby to centurion around the hall.

Uncannily she even shares a birthday with her great granddaughter River.

Entering the hall, wearing a 100-birthday sash and tiara, to a trumpet fanfare and a cheering crowd, her pimped up rollator covered in lights and birthday balloons, she sat on her specially made throne, surrounded by her guests.

And what a life she has led, always cheerful and upbeat.

Born in a top flat with a shared outside toilet in Tottenham, north London in 1924.

She’s been a lifelong Spurs supporter.

Pulled through the crowd at White Hart Lane by her dad, so they could get behind the goal and cheer another Jimmy Greaves goal.

A beautiful young woman, she lived through the Blitz. Almost married an American pilot and a South African serviceman.

Eventually marrying Basil, known as Peter in 1952 and moving to Stroud, a place she’s always loved, although initially thinking she was moving to Kent, getting confused with Strood.

She had two sons Chris and Simon in 1961 and 1963.

She met lifelong friends after joining Brimscombe and Thrupp WI soon after and became renowned for dressing up for performances and being part of the group’s fantastic floats at Stroud Show.

Usually scooping first prize.

She’s still making new friends today at her singing and walking groups.

Marjorie is at the heart of an ever-growing family loved by everyone.
