Get ready for an evening of laughter and entertainment with the latest DODS play “A Bunch of Amateurs”

A washed-up Hollywood action hero - Jefferson Steel - hopes to reignite his waning career by accepting an invitation to play King Lear at Stratford.

But he discovers on his arrival in England that he will not be performing with the RSC, but with the Stratford Players at Stratford St. John in Somerset.

Hilarity ensues as egos clash and chaos reigns both on and off the stage.

Based on the hit movie starring Burt Reynolds, Imelda Staunton and Derek Jacobi, this hilarious comedy celebrates the power of community, the joy of theatre and the triumph of the underdog.

Jefferson Steel goes to the United Kingdom with his career deteriorating and having problems with his daughter who is an aspiring actress on the fringes of the New York theatre.

The local villagers are somewhat of a motley crew and are naturally delighted to have such an - albeit unsuccessful - star playing with them.

In the film Burt Reynolds Reynolds plays a typically selfish American with no time for manners, and displays an appalling lack of class, considering himself too big for this lowly setting.

The transition to humble actor, happy to play with the British actors takes some time, but eventually he is reconciled with his estranged daughter and realises that he is no better, in terms of talent and intelligence, than his amateur colleagues.

Don’t miss your chance to see ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’ live on stage the Chantry Centre at October 9-12.
