PLANS have been put forward to expand a dentist in Cam.
A planning application has been submitted to expand Cam Dental Practice in Chapel Street.
Proposals - which were submitted to Stroud District Council - include creating an additional dental clinical room.
According to floor plans, an existing staff room and kitchen would be transformed into the new room.
Other proposals include creating a new main entrance to the practice and creating a new staff room area.
It is understood, if plans are approved and work completed, six new full-time jobs would be created.
However, the plans have been met with opposition from three residents, many who point out that bottleneck Chapel Street already struggles with speeding cars and illegal parking.
Meanwhile, Cam Parish Council say they have refused the application due to ‘poor design’ which would be overbearing on a neighbouring property.
It comes as similar plans to expand the same dentist were refused in March last year.
The application was officially submitted by applicant Dr Sivova to Stroud District Council on Wednesday, July 31.
A planning document reads: “We have been appointed by the applicant to submit the application for a single storey extension to the front façade, accommodating a new main entrance facing Chapel Street and a rear dormer installation.
“The proposal will also feature a new white render finish and black fascia.
“Proposed works aim to improve existing building by creating a more harmonious façade, more clearly showing the function of the building as a dentistry and updating the finish to a render, matching the neighbouring properties.”
The application also comes amid a dental crisis in the UK.
According to data from the GP Survey by Ipsos, 13 million people – or 28 per cent of England’s adult population – have an unmet need for NHS dentistry.
The figure includes an estimated 5.6 million adults who have tried and failed to secure a dental appointment in the last two years.
