A LIGHT aircraft has crashed on a busy A-road near Stroud.
The aircraft landed on the A419 near Aston Down airfield between Stroud and Cirencester around 4.45pm today, Tuesday.
Motorists are being advised that road closures are in place while emergency services attend the scene.
The two occupants on board are being assessed by the ambulance service.
It is understood that no other vehicles were involved.
The road is closed in both directions between Cowcombe Hill and Emmerson Lane which is causing widespread congestion.
An eyewitness said: "It was a small aeroplane, it looked like it stalled and nose dived into the main road."
A driver said: "Lots of emergency services whizzed past us. The traffic in Chalford and the roads towards Sapperton should be avoided, it's total chaos."
