A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a woman in Gloucester in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 27 August.

Police were called to the junction of Paul Street and Tarrington Road at around 1.45am with a report of a serious assault.

Emergency services attended and a woman was found with suspected stab wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to inform the woman's next of kin and ensure they receive the appropriate support. The Coroner's Office has been informed.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody for questioning.

The Major Crime Investigation Team is in the early stages of an investigation, and at this time it is believed that those involved were known to each other. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Scene guards are in place and there will continue to be a police presence in the area while an investigation continues.

Anyone with information or CCTV footage in relation to the incident is asked to contact police. In particular, investigating officers are keen for footage covering Dora Walk, Paul Street and Tarrington Road.
