IT has been revealed why there has been ongoing traffic chaos in the Dudbridge area recently.

Since the end of July, temporary traffic lights have been installed at the start of Dudbridge Hill.

The three-way lights have caused delays, especially to drivers heading towards Rodborough and the town centre.

It has also caused congestion on Dudbridge Road and the Dudbridge Roundabout near Sainsbury's.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council has now told the SNJ that the existing traffic lights at the lower end of Dudbridge Hill are being “upgraded”.

They have also apologised for "any inconvenience" caused by the works.

In addition, according to GCC’s roadworks notice, the works are due to end on Friday, August 30.

"We would like to apologise"

A GCC spokesperson said: “We’re investing in upgrading the traffic lights which will help to improve the traffic flow and safety.

“The work is being carried out during the holidays to reduce disruption and we are monitoring the traffic to try to keep any delays to a minimum.

“However, we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while we make these improvements.”

Meanwhile, it is understood these works have nothing to do with the nearby development where new homes are being built by Vistry Homes further up Dudbridge Hill.

Plans for 55 homes were previously approved by Stroud District Council for the site in March 2023.

The development will comprise a mix of traditional houses and a number of apartments within two designated apartment blocks.
