AN appeal has been launched after a village church was recently targeted by thieves.

Roof tiles were stolen from the St Mary the Virgin Church in Fretherne near Frampton-On-Severn.

It is believed the theft happened between Sunday afternoon, August 11 and Tuesday night, August 7.

A church spokesperson said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we need to advise that thieves stole five courses of the stone roof tiles from the roof at the back of the church.

“They also tried to take the copper sheeting off the roof of the Darell Chapel.

“Although they didn't manage to take any copper there has been some damage caused.

“We would be grateful for anyone who thinks they may have any relevant information to contact the police.”
