DRIVERS are being warned to be braced for major roadworks across the Stroud area.

Gloucestershire County Council’s highways team is due to start resurfacing work soon on various routes.

The roadworks will not take place on bank holidays or on weekends.

Upcoming works - which are full closures - include:

  • The A419 Bristol Road at Stonehouse - overnight closure between 8pm and 7am from Friday, August 16 until Wednesday, August 28
  • Kings Road, Stonehouse - closed between 9am and 3pm from Tuesday, August 27 until Wednesday, August 28
  • Belle Vue Road, Stroud - closed between 9am and 3pm from Thursday, August 29 until Saturday, August 31

Roadworks in Rodborough cancelled

Meanwhile, a scheme to resurface both Kingscourt Lane and Court Way in Lightpill and Rodborough has been cancelled.

Both roads were due to be closed between 9am to 3pm from Thursday, August 8 until Tuesday, August 27.

A GCC spokesperson said the works had to be rescheduled due to ‘overrunning utility works’.

“It will be reprogrammed for later in the financial year”, the spokesperson added.

Westward Road, Ebley

Elsewhere, Westward Road in Ebley was closed on Monday, August 12 for traffic and lining improvement from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Access to the Stroud District Council offices at Ebley Mill was maintained for cyclists and pedestrians.

It comes after long-awaited plans to resurface the crumbling stretch of road at Westward Road were delayed due to the general election.

A46 Painswick Road due to reopen

The good news for drivers is that the A46 Painswick Road on the outskirts of Stroud is due to reopen on Friday, August 16 after a two week closure.

The key road - between the junction with the A4713 and Pincot Lane - was shut by GCC for investigation and repair work.

Lastly, multi-way temporary traffic lights at Dr Newtons Way will be in place until Friday, August 23 for work by the National Grid.

A spokesperson from Gloucestershire County Council said: “Our resurfacing programme is dependent on several factors.

“It can be affected by things like; heavy rain, changes in temperatures and other weather events as well as plant breakdown and unforeseen technical issues that arise once work has begun.

“All this means scheme dates and details can change at short notice.

“We appreciate this is inconvenient, and we will keep our online schedule and our social media feeds updated with more details if changes happen.”
