WATER in Stroud was cloudy in colour yesterday.
Many concerned residents took to social media to upload pictures of the water - including at Bowbridge and Stonehouse.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Agency said they visited a site in Stroud and discovered paint had been spilt.
It is believed to have originated in the River Frome.
They said: “Our officers attended a site in Stroud and discovered that paint had been accidentally spilled into the water which created a white discolouration in the watercourse.
“With a fast-moving current, the paint quickly dispersed and no environmental impacts were observed.
“However, our officers have asked the site operators to produce a management plan to prevent this issue happening in future.
“If people have further concerns they should contact our 24/7 hotline on 0800 807060.”
