A GROUP of mums from Chalford have completed a gruelling cycling challenge in memory of their friend who died from a brain tumour.

The Chalford Mums - made up of Julia Woods, Kate Sackett, Karen Richardson and Christine Fox - undertook the 100-mile Chalford Chew Cycling Challenge on Thursday, July 18 in aid of the Brain Tumour Research charity.

They rode to Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club in Somerset and back to the area in memory of fellow Chalford Mum Lynne Adams.

Lynne was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a fast-growing type of brain tumour, in 2021 and died in 2023 aged 68.

Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club was Lynne’s ‘happy place’, and she was able to fulfil a wish to return there before she died.

Commenting on the cycle, Karen said: “We’re all a little sore, but ready for the next one.

“This ride meant so much to us all.

“It was such a memorable day and for such a fantastic cause.”

The five Chalford Mums met after moving into Chalford at a similar time almost 30 years ago.

During the ride, Kate was additionally remembering her husband Mark, who also died from a brain tumour.

Furthermore, Julia has now lost four friends to the disease.

The cycle was additionally in memory of Mark Sackett, Dave Baron and Steve Bowman.

The Chalford Mums have raised over £4,000 for Brain Tumour Research on their JustGiving page.
