EVERY week I get asked umpteen questions during the market about a certain stallholder appearing when. Apart from the classic “Are the eggs coming today?” which we get asked every week at least once, (they are always the last to arrive at about 8.45am because they are collecting just laid eggs first thing in the morning) the most frequent request for information has to be “when are the cherries coming back”. So, at last, I am delighted to announce that Court Farm will be back starting this Saturday, for a period of about five weeks with their legendary cherry crop. If you’ve never bought cherries at a farmers’ market before, and have only experienced supermarket ones, please come and try some. They are superb.
We have actually had cherries at the market for a couple of weeks as Styan’s Family Produce have had them in their range. Their trees, however, are not so old yet, so their crop is still comparatively small.
We are really seeing the summer veg crop coming in now with green beans, courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes and all manner of things appearing on the stalls.
More things to look out for this week include Woodchester Valley Vineyard, the Garlic Farm, the Boutique Distillery with Gin and Rum, Malcolm Allison Nursery’s unusual and heritage plants for the garden, Bibury Trout Farm and the rather excellent White Lake Cheeses with their amazing, wide ranging selection of handmade cheeses. Using goat, sheep and cow’s milk for their range there is something for everyone.
