A MAN from a village in the area has been jailed after sexually assaulting two girls.
David James, aged 66, of Green Close, Uley, pleaded guilty to eight counts of indecent assault.
The incidents occurred in Gloucestershire between March 1976 and March 1980 and were all against two girls that were under the age of 16.
Prior to sentencing, James pleaded guilty to all counts.
James was sentenced to a total of 6 years and 3 months imprisonment with an extended licence of two years at St Albans’ Crown Court on Friday, June 28.
The investigation was led by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Non-Recent Sexual Offences Investigation Team.
Hertfordshire Constabulary said although the incidents occurred in Gloucestershire, they received the first reports of James's crimes.
Detective Constable Jason Tinsey from Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “The bravery shown by the victims during this process has been incredible and I thank them for their courage in reporting David James’ crimes.
“This trial would have been difficult for the two victims discussing incidents that have had long-lasting impacts on them, but I hope that seeing James brought to justice with a lengthy sentence brings closure and helps them move forward with their lives.”
