A COMMUNITY-MINDED Year 5 pupil is saying farewell to his long locks in a bid to raise money for a good cause.

Noah Townsend is aiming to raise £500 so that work can be completed on a forest experience area at Uplands Community Primary School, where he is a student.

The 10-year-old is therefore having his long hair cut on Wednesday, June 19, with any money raised being given to the school and the hair being donated to the Little Princess Trust.

The latter provides free, real-hair wigs to children and young people up to the age of 24 who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.

This isn’t the first time that Noah has had his hair chopped to raise money, with the student bringing in just under £600 for Uplands Primary School’s PTA with a cut amid the coronavirus pandemic in 2021.

Asked why he has chosen to have his hair cut again, Noah said: “There are other people who need my hair more than I do, and raising money for the school will benefit other children for a long time.

“I really love my school, and having the forest experience area done would just be amazing.”

Noah’s mum Faye said that Uplands Primary School has been trying “desperately” to get its forest experience area completed and is currently part of a Tesco blue token scheme as well as undertaking fundraising activities within the school.

“Noah is very much a believer in ‘If you can do something to help, you should,’” she added.

“He has been growing his hair now for several years and is easily recognisable with his long ponytail!”
