IT has been confirmed that the Prime Minister is visiting the Stroud area today.

Mr Sunak is due to visit a school in the area this afternoon.

It comes as Mr Sunak apologised this morning after skipping an international D-Day ceremony for a TV interview.

The Prime Minister said “it was a mistake” not to stay in France for the international event after he had attended the earlier British ceremony in Normandy.

Meanwhile, this week it was revealed in a YouGov poll that the Stroud constituency is expected to turn Labour in the General Election.

Pollsters believe voters are likely to vote in Labour candidate Dr Simon Opher and remove Conservative candidate and former Conservative MP Siobhan Baillie.

Ms Baillie recently told the SNJ she believes she is the "underdog" going into the election on Thursday, July 4.

"It is going to be the toughest election in a generation and we all know I am the underdog - again,” she said.

Earlier this month, a study also suggested the Stroud seat is 'high' on Labour's target list.

It is believed the constituency is 14th on the list of the Labour Party's top 100 targets

The study was compiled by Professor Colin Rallings and Professor Michael Thrasher of the University of Plymouth, on behalf of the PA news agency, the BBC, ITN and Sky News.

Earlier this year, the PM previously visited specialist STEM site SGS Berkeley Green UTC in March.

Due to the recent boundary changes, the Stroud constituency will have some changes in the General Election.

The Stroud constituency is formed of: Amberley & Woodchester, Berkeley Vale, Cainscross, Cam East, Cam West, Chalford, Coaley & Uley, Dursley, Nailsworth , Randwick, Whiteshill & Ruscombe, Rodborough, Severn, Stonehouse, Stroud Central, Stroud Farmhill & Paganhill, Stroud Slade, Stroud Trinity, Stroud Uplands, Stroud Valley, The Stanleys, Thrupp and Wotton-under-Edge.
