WARM TRIBUTES have been paid to an 'intrepid traveller' who died weeks before her 104th birthday.
Mary Jeffries, who lived in the Stroud area for over 40 years passed away recently at her home in Gloucester.
She was just weeks short of her 104th Birthday.
Mary was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, with her 2 brothers and a sister.
She relocated to the UK, after the war with her late husband Wilson.
Over the years, they had five Children - Pat, Christopher, Mike, Joy & Yvonne.
They lived in Ebley for much of their married life.
Son Mike said: "Mary and her husband loved to travel and spent a lot of their retirement travelling to many countries worldwide including visits back to her beloved Cape Towns.
"In fact incredibly Mary's final visit home was as recent as 2018 when she sailed out of Southampton on on the Queen Mary accompanied by one of her daughters, back to Cape Town, just a few months before her 98th Birthday.
"Despite having to celebrate her 100th Birthday during lockdown she remained upbeat about the day insisting she hadn't wanted a fuss anyway.
"She died peacefully at home.
"We will all love her & miss her so much."
