A MUSIC legend is to perform in Nailsworth for a special reason.
Singer-song writer and activist Billy Bragg is performing in Nailsworth on a guitar made in a single day by volunteers from the town’s Pi Guitars.
The clock will start ticking at 6am on Saturday, February, 10 for the Pi Guitar team, fashioning pieces of old furniture, door frames and skip finds into a finished guitar by 6.00pm, just 12 hours later ready for Billy Bragg to play that evening.
The build will be filmed and played on a loop at the Nailsworth Subscription Rooms gig, so everyone will be able to watch the process from beginning to end.
Pi Guitars was established in 2021 and is run by not-for-profit community enterprise Practical Intelligence in Nailsworth Community Workshop.
Participants build the finest quality guitars using recycled and locally sourced wood, with handmade Bare Knuckle pickups and top class hardware.
The ethos of the project is to teach the craft of guitar building whilst building confidence, self-belief and transferable skills in volunteers who may be struggling with anxiety and their mental health.
The finished guitars are sold to help support Pi Guitars or are sponsored and donated to other musical projects which support mental health and wellbeing.
Gavin Pond, co-founder of Practical Intelligence, said: “It is a dream come true to have someone of the calibre of Billy Bragg to agree to play our guitar at the end of the build-off.
"February 10th is going to be a great occasion – a celebration of all our hard work over the past two and a half years.
"The Pi Guitar project has surpassed all our expectations and has been inspirational to be part of it."
Tickets for the concert are available from Pam on 07971737626 or pam@practicalintelligence.org.uk and cost £25.
All proceeds go to support the Pi Guitars project
