PLANS have been submitted to upgrade a sports pavilion at a popular park in Dursley.
A planning application has been put forward by Dursley Town Council to revamp the pavilion at The War Memorial Recreation Ground, also known as the Rec.
Proposals submitted to Stroud District Council include installing three new unisex public toilets as well as creating a new storage area.
One of the toilets would meet the standards set out by the Changing Place accessibility campaign and would provide a facility for people with complex disabilities.
In addition, the application states that accessibility level work would also be carried out including extending the existing ramp as well as installing a new three-metre concrete ramp.
Meanwhile, the town council would use the storage area to store equipment and materials and would also include a new electric charging point.
It is hoped, if approved, the new facility would allow the town council to buy a more environmentally friendly work vehicle in the future.
Dursley mayor Alex Stennett said: "We are very pleased to have submitted a planning application to upgrade the Pavilion on the War Memorial Recreation Ground, which includes a new public toilet and additional garage/storage space.
"The Rec is a great outdoor facility, very well used by our community, and the need for a public toilet has been discussed for a number of years, as there isn't an accessible one nearby.
"We hope that the application is supported and permission is granted so that we can start applying for grant funding."
A planning document reads: "The town council require additional storage and accessible WCs to allow them to provide services for the recreation field.
"The proposal is to extend the existing pavilion building as the new accommodation requires
management with the existing pavilion."
It is understood construction could start this year, if approved, pending grant funding.
