POLICE have released an update after armed police were spotted in Stroud town centre.
Two marked and one unmarked police cars, as well as a police van, were parked on the corner of Threadneedle Street and Kendrick Street on Wednesday, January 3.
Police officers in riot gear were seen carrying guns.
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called to High Street in Stroud shortly before 1pm following reports of two people fighting.
“Armed officers attended and located a man and woman nearby, one of which was found to be in possession of a BB gun.
“The pair were subsequently arrested on suspicion of firearm offences.
“Ricky Baker, aged 33 and of Gloucester Street in Stroud, was later charged with possession of an imitation firearm in a public place.
“He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Thursday 18 January.
“A 35-year-old woman who was also arrested was later released from custody and will face no further police action.”
