A PRIMARY school in Stroud has opened a playground in memory of a former pupil.

This week ‘Rob’s Playground’ was opened St Matthew's Primary School in Cainscross.

Woody and husband Rob, who was a former pupil of St Matthew’s, had been helping and supporting the school over many years.

Through Woody’s wonderful relationship with St Matthew’s, Rob was a silent advocate of the school.

Stroud News and Journal: Playground at St Matthew's in Cainscross opened in memory of a former pupilA school spokesperson said: "Sadly Rob passed away this year, and through his kindness and generosity he wanted to give the children at St Matthew’s something special, for not only our current children but also the children of the future.

"Over the years Woody and Rob gave so much to the pupils and staff that we believe their love has resonated in the walls, which we feel every day."

The children and staff were joined by Rev. James and Mrs Spencer (Chair of Governors) where they congregated in Rob’s Playground and Mr Lucas, the Headteacher and Mrs Collins, deputy head, talked about this fantastic legacy that has been given to the children by Rob and Woody.

With the help from Will and Rupert (pupils and close family friends), Woody cut the ribbon and the whole school to rapturous applause.

The whole school then enjoyed using the wonderful gift of their new playground.
