A COUNTRY pub near Cirencester has been bought by a local villager who has ambitious plans to restore it to its 'former glory'.
On behalf of Frasers Real Estate acting as receivers, a spokesperson for specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has announced that The Crown Inn at Cerney Wick has been sold.
The pub is located in the charming village of Cerney Wick, right in the heart of the Cotswolds Water Park, just six miles from the busy market town of Cirencester.
The six-bedroom property features a cosy lounge bar, formal dining area and a small tap room suitable for private parties, with a total capacity of up to 84.
Outside of the property, there is a large patio that can seat up to 50.
The Crown Inn has been purchased by a local villager who said their intention is to restore the pub to its former glory and to make it part of the village community again
Planning permission for the construction of two four-bed detached dwellings was granted in 2020, providing various exciting hospitality or residential opportunities for the new owners.
Nicholas Calfe, hospitality director at Christie & Co who handled the sale, said: "The location of the Crown Inn (on the edge of the affluent Cotswold Water Park) was a big draw, attracting interest far and wide, especially amongst local buyers who were aware of the potential it offers and the opportunity to develop land to the rear.
“Christie & Co received multiple offers for best and final offers, eventually selling to a cash buyer who exchanged and completed the transaction within 6 weeks at an undisclosed price.”
