A COLLECTIVE spirit of generosity shone when a popular Stroud pub held a fundraising walk for a good cause.
The King’s Head at Kingscourt held the event in aid of Stonehouse-based Hope for Tomorrow, which provides mobile cancer care units, and raised an incredible £1,300.
The pub has held a charity walk for more than 20 years but this event was particularly poignant as it was named the John Nicholl Walk For Hope after the pub’s much-loved landlord who sadly died in November last year from cancer.
His wife Carol still runs the pub, having taken it over with John around 30 years ago.
The route was about 5k and took in several other pubs in a circular route, with around 100 people taking part, which is believed to be a record.
Money was raised via the £5 entry fee, t-shirts, merchandise and a raffle.
Afterwards, walkers enjoyed food courtesy of Carol and live music from bar worker Bella.
Pub regular Adrian Major, who helped organise the event, said: “We would like thank everyone who took part in this year’s charity walk and for all your kind donations.”
